Ilocos Trip in Pictures pt. 2

we had a great time so far and we're all hungry since it was already 2pm. when you're in Ilocos, the easiest way to visit one place to another is by a van (l300's and the like). mostly, families here turn this into family business. some owns a van or two or maybe more and organizing their own itinerary since they are familiar of the place and post 'em online. when we arrived, we're all in awe adoring St. Augustine church (or Paoay church) since it is hard to miss.
this beauty was completed in 1710 and still stood centuries after.

luckily right across the church, we spotted food stalls selling empanadas ,which Ilocos in general takes pride as one of their best delicacies(Ilocos norte and sur has different versions of empanada by the way). we ordered pansit and 2 empanadas each and damn it's so good!

empanada @30pesos a pc.
and this is how they prepare it.

i died and go to heaven, charoz! i swear it taste so good and the price is a winner. no wonder it was a big hit among tourists and locals. we would like to order more but it will be a sin since we are full. like our tummy's VERY full. we chatted for awhile and rest for good 20 minutes. after we paid, we headed to check the church i long fascinated eversince. napaka-surreal ng feeling ko that time.

tbh, it is the 3rd of  the oldest churches in the philippines off my list. one was in bolinao, pangasinan and the other one was in bohol. since marcos mausoleum is just within the area, we decided to visit the place before ending our first Ilocandia tour and get some decent rest, in bed. hehe.

some of the first lady's terno on display.

president's portrait.

it is prohibited to take photos of the late president's carcass which is encased in a glass coffin. when we got inside it scared the hell out of me since the presence of a dead body really frightens me even as a child. up close, he looks like he's just sleeping but the background music and scent of flowers kills it. as in parang pang-mumu ang music talaga. its a relief when we exited the room and went upstairs to check for the first family's memorabilia on display.

it was a very tiring day for all of us but the trip is so worth it. i can only imagine as a child that i only learn this places off the pages of the history books or visit them in my imagination or in a dream. right now, its as if i am living that dream and hearing the stories straight from the places we went earlier. so surreal!

on our way home, we happen to see this vendor selling inihaw na isda along the highway which gives us an idea of a nice dinner. so yun bumili kami. dalawang isda and mga ilang pusit na inihaw din. ang mura lang.

ciao,
Tristan
